If you are fostering a child between birth and three years old, you generally can’t work once you start foster caring due to the high level of needs and supervision for a child of this age. This doesn’t mean you can’t be working while you are going through the application process.
Fostering a child under three years of age includes commitment to supporting family time with birth parents for example and this can be several times per week for a young child.
If me and my partner are caring for a child can one of us work?
Yes, if you and your partner are fostering a child it is fine for one of you to be working. This is because one of you can be there to provide the care the child needs while the other is committing time to employment.
I work a handful of hours, can I foster a child aged between 0 and 3?
It may be possible for you to work a small number of hours and foster a child aged between birth and three but we would need to speak with you about it first. Much of it depends on the support network you have and the hours you do work.
