Can you foster if you are in a same sex relationship?

Same sex couple foster carers running with children on the beach

Yes - you can foster if you are in a same sex relationship. Your gender and sexuality has absolutely no bearing on whether you can become a foster carer or not. In fact, many people in same sex relationships and part of the LGBTQ+ community are providing a supportive loving home to children as you read this. The most important thing is your commitment and ability to meet a child’s needs and provide a stable, loving home.

Is the application process different for same sex couples?

No. The application process is the same for same sex couples as it is for any other couple or individual. If you apply to be foster carers as a couple, you will be assessed as a couple. The support you receive and the journey from the initial enquiry through to the application and approval process will be exactly the same. All we ask for is that you meet the fostering requirements and that you can provide a child with a stable, caring and loving home. Your assessing social worker will guide you through the process and support you along the way.
